ON-COURSE SUPPORT
BE PREPARED
Anything can happen on a 100+ mile course. This is a demanding ride, and riders should be prepared for both mechanical and environmental challenges.
WEATHER
The Mammoth Gran Fondo happens rain or shine. Riders are responsible for checking the weather and packing appropriate clothing for the conditions.
MEDICAL
In the event of a medical emergency, call 911. If you are out of cell service range, flag a support vehicle – instructions and details below. Rest stops will be equipped with basic first aid supplies.
BIKE REPAIRS
All riders should be able to change a flat tire and have all the necessary items on you to complete this normal task. On-course SAG support should be utilized for mechanical issues, not flat tires.
Riders should carry the following:
tire levers
spare tube with correct valve length size for your wheels
patch kit
CO2 inflator with extra CO2 cartridges
hand pump
multi-tool
Not all rest stops offer SAG support. Please be prepared.
ON-COURSE SUPPORT VEHICLES
There are going to be a number of different types of vehicles on course - please read the information below to understand who can help you with what issues.
Law Enforcement and Emergency Services:
The below agencies will have vehicles stationed at road closures and can help with medical emergencies.
CHP and Mono County Sheriff
Bike Mechanical Issues:
Mechanical support vans will be stationed at designated rest stops and will roam the course.
Unchained Bicycle Garage Vans
Rider Transport:
Pickup trucks will be looping between rest stops. These vehicles are NOT equipped to provide any form of bike mechanical support but can transport riders in need to the nearest SAG support station. These vehicles are equipped with direct communication to emergency services if needed.
Mammoth Mountain vehicles
Roaming support motorcycles
Sweep Van
A passenger van with a bike trailer will follow the last rider on course and begin picking up all riders who do not make the finish cut-off time. The sweep van will not provide transport service on course prior to the finish cut-off time.
COURSE ABANDONMENT
We strongly encourage riders to pick the route that best fits their current fitness and training levels, but just in case, we are offering a shuttle service that will depart from the Whitmore Rest Stop at 2:00 PM, 3:00 PM, 4:00 PM, and 5:00 PM.
If you need to abandon course prior to the Whitmore Rest Stop, you have a few options:
Flag down a transport vehicle to bring you to the next Rest Stop. From there, you can use transport vehicles to hop to the next Rest Stop and so on until you get to Whitmore or continue your ride. You can wait at Whitmore until shuttle bus service begins or call a friend to pick you up. Transport vehicles are NOT taxis–they will only travel between two rest stops.
Wait until the Sweep Van arrives; this vehicle follows the last racer. It will be a slow bus ride to Whitmore, or you can get off and continue once you feel good to go.
If you are outside the road closures, you can always just call a friend or family member to pick you up.
Please do not call Emergency Services for ride support. They should only be contacted for medical emergencies.
Our official on-course SAG support partner is Unchained Bicycle Garage (UGB).
Here are some helpful pieces of information to know in-case you need to utilize their services:
On-course labor is free, but participants will be responsible for paying for parts.
Please be sure to carry some form of payment with you – UGB accepts all forms of payment except for crypto currency or checks.
The UBG SAG Vans are essentially a rolling bike shop, they have every tool and vast majority of parts available.
